New Travel Spot: Germany

I am beyond excited! Yesterday, I finally booked a flight for 9 days in Germany. Shawn is heading there for work and we were lucky enough to link it right to my spring break and honestly, it couldn't not have come at a better time. I've been getting a little restless lately and it is time for me to get on a plane!

I'm currently in the beginning stages of planning but I know we are flying in an out of Frankfurt and spending a couple of days in Stuttgart.

Anyone have suggestions of what to do? I'm also down for just getting there and exploring.

Some places I hope to hit:

Hike in the Black Forest

Get my girly geek on as Neuschwanstein Castle

Ride the Romantic Road and see tons of cute little Bavarian Towns (My family originates from the Bavaria region so I'm ready to geek out!)

Maybe even hit up a roman bath in Baden Baden. The possibilities are seriously endless but then again, so is my excitement.

And of course....... BEERS!

Anyone have any other recommendations?

Goodbye, Yonkers

Last week, we moved out of Yonkers, New York to head a bit north. We've had a great year and although we never really felt like Yonkers was our home, we had a great year, making new friends and exploring NYC.
Here are a couple of photos from over the last year.
Things to be thankful for during the year we lived in Yonkers:
We adopted Emmylou (YAY!)
I started a "real" job and quit it because I realized it wasn't for me
I started graduate school
we explored Greece with great friends
we made our home at Bezack park where Emmylou learned to swim
we made two trips back to see our wonderful friends in Nashville
we managed to make it back to Michigan to see our families for most holidays
we had wonderful friends who came to visit us in our new state
we made many new friends
being unemployed for a couple of months and although I was poor, I was able to spend days wandering NYC (I love to wander)
I joined a singing group again
I re-vamped the blog and although it is still a work in progress, it looks better than ever

Emmylou really hates balloons--imagine growling

Birthday Apple Picking

Emmylou had her first farm experience this year when we headed up to Harvest Moon Apple Orchard. She could not have been more excited. She about jumped off of the hayride when she saw an entire field of chickens (she is a real bird chaser) As we walked by the pasture with goats and donkeys, this little guy came running to greet her. I'm not sure who was more afraid/intrigued by the other. It was a beautiful fall Saturday, I can't even begin to tell you how much I love fall.
Although I didn't snap a photo, I also had my first fresh cider and doughnut of the season!

Travel Time

This photo is not mine: Please visit Makinglifepretty
Now that we've moved to New York, we've decided it is time to see as much as the eastern portion of the United States as possible. We spend a lot of time in NYC, Westchester Co and Northern New Jersey but it is time to get out there!
First on the list was camping in the Shawnee State Park of Pennsylvania. We went for Memorial Day with some of our best friends from college. It was right in the middle of Michigan and New York. I honestly knew absolutly nothing about the area but that is the beauty of google - it tells you where to go even when you have no idea.

It was beautiful but VERY cold so most time was spent around the fire. It felt good to be back in the country where Emmylou could run and chase birds without me worrying. We visited a couple local watering holes where we were some of the only people except for the staff. They possibly wanted us to leave but they were very hospitible nonetheless. We found Fort Bedford, which was closed and a lot of other places which claimed George Washington did something at. If I knew more about the area ahead of time, I probably would have been all history nerd on it but all I could think about was another shocktop and brat around the fire.

Next on the list, Philadeplhia sometime in June, Washington D.C. and then Boston. Hopefully all before summer's end. Any suggestions in these wonderous places?

Greece Trip: Part 1

Last month, I jumped on my fave mode of transportation, headed over the Atlantic and got my wanderlust on. We started in Athens, spent a couple of days in Santorini and then hit up the mountain town of Delphi.

We ate a lot of doner kebabs, olives, tzatziki and greek salads. Seriously feta on everything? How can you go wrong?? March is the off season of tourism in Greece, so we had many of the places to ourselves: ie Santorini, we were the only people staying in our hotel. It was wonderful to be able to see all the wonderful sights on Greece without having to fight for space with other tourists.

At night, we enjoyed staying up until 5am drinking Mythos in the cafes as well as walking the streets with tall boys. I did a 3am cartwheel on the front steps of the Acropolis.....lifetime bucketlist check off. Also, I hadn't done a cartwheel in like 10 years so just proving to myself I could still do one was pretty awesome!

Anyways, enjoy!
