Style Icon: June Carter Cash

It is no secret that my life has been intensely shaped by country music. I spent my days as a child listening to the music, memorizing the lyrics and dreaming of singing them at the Grand Ole Opry. Although my tastes have grown in my older age, I still have a deep love for the historical past of country music and its stars.

Today my inspiration comes from June Carter Cash. Not only was the woman a famous comedian, singer and married to a legend like Johnny Cash but she also had an amazing wardrobe.

My Golden Globe Picks

I was completely gawking over all the beautiful and vintage inspired dresses on the red carpet of the Golden Globes yesterday, that I felt like I just needed to share a couple of my favorites.
A girl can only dream about having a place to wear some of  these amazing gowns, back to my fantasy world I go.

Happy New Year Y'all!

Happy New Year!

I have been thinking lately about  New Years resolutions. I usually don't do them for the reason that I never keep them. But I decided this year, I need them. I need to keep myself accountable for something. I need something new, exciting and I need something to be proud of.
 This is what I have come up with so far....


1. Run my first half marathon
2. Join a new club or class to meet new people
3. Find a job in which I feel like I am contributing to society more than now
4. Read more - aka turn off the tv
5. Learn how to use liquid eyeliner ( I realize this sounds dumb but seriously, a 23 year old should know how!)
6. Love myself
7. Take a moment every day to be thankful for what I have

I hope you all had a much better New Years celebration than I did (sickly sleeping on the couch does not count as a good time) and here is to 2012!

The Best Way To Spread Chrismas Cheer Is Singing Loud For All To Hear

Last weekend, Shawn and I decided it was time to go out and see some of what the Nashville area has to offer us. It was time to step away from the music and hype and step back into history to learn. We went to the Lotz House in Franklin, TN.

The Lotz House was a part of one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War. The German immigrant family that lived there were made to flee when the battle started around their home. While they were gone, their house was brutalized by bullets and cannon fire, the original floors are dented from canon balls, and certain parts of the floors are darkly stained from all of the soldier's blood. In one of my pictures, you can see the red flag hanging over the front door, this is to symbolize that the house was once used as a hospital.

The ladies that did the tour were so sweet and full of southern charm. They shared their love of history and their town, it was absolutely wonderful to gain some of their knowledge. 

It was very surreal to get to visit a spot with so much history. The home also has one of the best antique collections in the southeast. If you want to learn more about the house, check it out here.
